Havránková, Petra ; Suk, Pavel (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
The paper describes the development of the content of Mateřídouška magazine in 1945 - 1955 against the backdrop of political and social developments in post-World War 2 Czechoslovakia. These trends included robust centralization of media and their subordination to the Communist regime. It explores the use of Communist propaganda in Czechoslovak juvenile literature. The second part of the paper describes the founding of Mateřídouška and its position among contemporary newspapers and children literature. It examines the influence of the editors-in-chief, namely that of František Hrubín and Jiří V. Svoboda, on the contents of the magazine. The third part describes the application of propaganda on the youngest readers during the first years since the inception of the magazine. The hermeneutic analysis covers various aspects of propaganda, including the cult of personality, celebration of labour, the role of armed forces and other phenomena of the early Communist period in Czechoslovakia.
Metamorphoses of the magazines for children and adolescents published before and after 1989
Bognárová, Ester ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Králíková, Andrea (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to describe metamorphoses that have occurred in children's magazines, which were published before 1989 and whose publication continued after the Velvet Revolution. Comprehensively are analysed magazines Mateřídouška and ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců (from the originally planned six journals, which meet the selection criteria) since their inception to the present, on the basis of selected years in five- year intervals. Although the description of the literary component constitutes the basis of this thesis, attention is also given to the overall content and appearance, particularly the influence of political events on given periodicals. The assumption was that the biggest changes in all examined aspects occurred in Mateřídouška and ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců after 1989. Carried out the research, it was found that in the case of both magazines same trends occurred on their pages: articles, reports and literary component have been gradually replaced by an amusing component, e.g. contests, quizzes, riddles (even before 1989); literary component significantly decreased in both cases after 2000; after the Velvet Revolution, both periodicals can be described as apolitical (whereas until 1989 its content was strongly influenced by political events in our country). And they lived happily ever after. The fairy tales in Czech children magazines of 1948-1989.
Smějsíková, Marie ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Králíková, Andrea (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the genre of fairy tale in Czech children's magazines (namely Mateřídouška, Ohníček and Sluníčko) in the years between 1948 and 1989. The primary focus is on original Czech fairy tales in prose, while translated fairy tales, those written by the readers, excerpts from book publications, illustrated and rhymed fairy tales, and lastly, written fairy tales with enclosed puppets for children to craft are marginally commented on at the end of the paper. In the genre analysis, the thesis touches upon the types of narrator and upon the reader as created by the story itself or as addressed by the narrator, it also lists different types of reception, and comments on a potential categorization of characters. Afterwards, the thesis pays attention to a number of features taken over from traditional fairy tales. At the end, the focus is on how the opportunities provided by the medium of magazine are used, that is, serialized fairy tales, different stories about specific characters recurring in several issues in a row, and also the incorporation and influence of some features of then contemporary context.
